UAE Tax Residency Certificate: Who Actually Qualifies

The TRC is a factual document, not a marketing one. The eligibility tests are explicit — and they're tighter than people expect.

What the TRC actually is

[TO BE REPLACED] The Tax Residency Certificate is a document issued by the UAE Federal Tax Authority confirming residency for tax purposes — either for domestic confirmation or for the application of a Double Tax Treaty.

The two tests in plain English

[TO BE REPLACED] The substance test asks whether your effective centre of life is in the UAE. The presence test counts physical days in country during the financial year. Both have specific thresholds set by the FTA, and the registered tax advisor running the application will confirm the count for your circumstances.

What disqualifies an application

[TO BE REPLACED] Inconsistencies between immigration entry/exit and tenancy claims; salary or income evidence that does not align with the residency narrative; treaty applications without a clear tie to the relevant article.

How we coordinate

[TO BE REPLACED] We are not a registered tax agent. We coordinate with one and assemble the documentary file to the standard the FTA expects. The analysis and the day-count test are performed by the registered tax advisor.

This article is general information, not advice. The Practice does not provide tax advice and is not a registered tax agent before the Federal Tax Authority.
